Through the ages: a dinosaur experience at the Münchehagen Open-Air Museum
The Münchehagen Open-Air Museum is Germany’s largest scientific adventure and theme park. On our 2.5 km circular trail, dinosaur fans of all ages can learn all about the fascinating development of life in the history of the earth. That’s 400 million years – all bundled together in one park!
Around 300 lifelike reconstructions of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals in their original size await you! These include not only the best-known representatives such as Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Brachiosaurus and Tyrannosaurus rex – but also, for example, the most interesting extinct animals in evolutionary history.
Do you know the Quetzalcoatlus, for example?
It not only had a crazy name, but also a very interesting physique: although its torso was quite small, it had a wingspan of up to 13 meters! And it could stay in the air for hours with minimal effort. Come and visit him right here in the park.
Our models: New findings lead to new challenges.
When we build new dinosaurs, we attach great importance to ensuring that the models are scientifically correct and work closely with international scientists. New findings are constantly being made in dinosaur research: Did you know, for example, that researchers have found evidence that T-Rex may have had lips? Lips? Really now? Above the huge teeth? Then it would only have looked half as scary and frightening, wouldn't it? Maybe even as nice and friendly as our Rexi?
Our natural monument
The scientific center of our museum is the natural monument “Dinosaur tracks” with over 300 fossilized dinosaur tracks. You can see very clearly that this is exactly where the dinosaurs walked around 139.5 million years ago! And here we have recreated what is probably Europe's largest dinosaur scene for you using the tracks we have found: A peaceful herd of Diplodocus being chased by a hungry Torvosaurus! This is exactly how it could have happened in the past.

At our Paleo Camp, there are lots of great activities for all dinosaur fans big and small on the subject of dinosaurs and palaeontology. All these activities are offered daily – without registration.
Treasure sand (free activity for our guests)
There’s more than just digging in our sandpits! You can unearth great treasures here! With a sieve and a bit of luck, you’ll find precious semi-precious stones or fossil shark teeth. You can take four pieces home for your collection free of charge.

History you can touch: Modern technology meets prehistoric bones
Our paleontologists and taxidermists work on real prehistoric material every day in our live lab. They use pneumatic picks, spatulas and brushes to uncover fossilized bones, for example from Plateosaurus. In addition, bones and teeth are 3D scanned and then reconstructed in the 3D printer.

Dinosaur tracks: a journey through time at Münchehagen Dinosaur Park
At the heart of Münchehagen Dinosaur Park is the “Dinosaur Tracks” natural monument with over 300 fossilized dinosaur tracks. The discovery of these tracks in 1980 led to them being designated an important “National Geotope” in 2006. At the same time, the open-air dinosaur museum became a member of the “National Geographic Society” in the same year. Since 2004, our museum has also been dedicated to the continuous excavation of new dinosaur tracks in the neighboring quarry.
